Ketamine is a dissociative medication, which means that it blocks neurotransmitters involved in mood regulation, pain perception, and cognition. It is most commonly used in high doses as a type of anesthesia. However, in small amounts, ketamine injections can be used for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain, and many other mental health conditions.
TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. This is a non-invasive therapy treatment that stimulates areas of the brain using short magnetic pulses over the course of several sessions. TMS is approved for major depressive disorder, anxious depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
